Royal Electric Company partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as the prime contractor on the Airfield Lighting
Improvements project at Grissom Air Reserve Base in Indiana.

The scope of work involved the installation of the pull can plaza duct bank system, runway edge lighting system re-circuiting, drainage, wind cones, runway approach lighting system, PAPI home run cables,
taxiway lighting system cabling and vault modifications.

A variety of changes due to unexpected site conditions and variations in the plans presented unique challenges. Crews had to content with heavy rain and snow which led to standing water and muddy conditions on the jobsite.

Our field management team maintained close communication with the Army Corps of Engineers, providing timely solutions that benefited all stakeholders. Royal’s dogged evaluation of site conditions allowed saturated areas to dry over the warmer summer months as equipment was relocated to minimize impacts to production. Additionally, Royal accelerated efforts to achieve substantial completion before the following winter season.
