This project consisted of the demolishment and upgrade of electrical equipment, pumps, and communications infrastructure at five existing storm water pumping stations along the I-5 corridor in Sacramento, CA. Royal Electric’s scope of work included: safe-off existing utility connections, disconnection and removal of existing equipment, coordination of appropriate working space clearances/ layout of new equipment within the existing space, x-ray scan/layout/core/seal annular space on existing concrete floor and walls for new conduit infrastructure, upgrade of incoming utility infrastructure, providing pathways and cabling from the pump station to freeway fiber connection, coordination and installation of a cellular antenna for redundant communications, installation of a new Motor Control Center, Manual Transfer Switch, PLC, program redundant communications to interface with Caltrans servers, and providing startup/ testing/commissioning/owner training for new equipment/communications.

As the rainy season approached, challenges with another entity’s freeway fiber installation delayed completion of the primary communication protocol.

Royal worked together with the project team to mitigate delays associated with the freeway fiber. We reconfigured the network to enable temporary pump station operation on cellular only and once available fiber communication was established.
